Life Planning

As each youth enters ninth grade, he/she is invited to choose an adult from the congregation to be a mentor for them through their high school years. This adult builds a special connection to the youth, to encourage them spiritually and to walk beside them as a role model. We are a group of forty that meet monthly except in the summer. Our meetings consist of group time where we may play games, construct/build, listen to a speaker or many other possibilities to go along with our topic for the night. The pairs are given hand outs with questions and scripture which they take to their nook in the church where they spend their one-on-one time. There, they discuss the questions, laugh together, pray, or share whatever is on their minds. The evening concludes with food and fellowship.

Purpose of Life Planning

  • to provide a place where youth can be listened to by an adult other than their parent
  • to walk together in friendship
  • to become faithful followers of Jesus Christ
  • to explore the gifts and talents of the youth as they look toward the future

In addition to the monthly meetings, the youth and adult often spend time together to build their relationship on their own time. Golf outings, e-mails, mission projects such as Habitat for Humanity, baking, ball games, visiting, shopping and concerts are just a few of the activities they do.

How you can pray for Life Planning

  • pray each mentor will be a giver of unconditional love, acceptance and encouragement
  • pray each youth will be open to guidance and have a desire to strengthen their faith
  • pray each pair will experience an abundance of fun and  joy as they grow together in friendship
